Hardscape Design and Installation

Patios, Walkways, and More!

Your Dream Yard, Built to Last

River Rock Pools designs and installs hardscape patios, pool coping, walkways, raised planters, and retaining walls throughout Windsor-Essex. We work with products from Techo-Bloc, Unilock, and Rinox, three of the most trusted names in Canadian hardscape.

Every River Rock hardscape installation is built on a poured concrete base. That one detail changes everything: pavers stay locked, level, and settled from day one, with no risk of shifting over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Hardscape Questions Answered

What's the difference between paving stone and poured concrete?

Poured concrete is one solid surface. If it cracks or shifts, repair is difficult. Paving stone is made up of individual units set on a prepared base, so any damaged piece can be removed and replaced without disturbing the rest. Paving stone also offers far more design options and tends to look more refined around pools and patios.

Gravel bases can compress, wash out, or shift with Ontario’s freeze-thaw cycles, causing pavers to settle unevenly over time. A poured concrete base eliminates that risk entirely. It’s a higher upfront cost, but it means your hardscape stays level and locked in permanently, with no callbacks or re-levelling down the road.

Yes. All of our hardscape services are available independently. That includes standalone retaining walls, new front walkways, and patios for existing backyards. No pool build required.

Coping refers specifically to the cap stones that finish the top edge of the pool wall, providing a clean transition between the pool shell and the surrounding surface. The patio surround is the broader paved area around the pool. We design both together so the materials and profiles are consistent throughout.

In most cases, yes. We’ll work with you to identify the existing product or find a close match from our supplier range. Techo-Bloc, Unilock, and Rinox all carry broad product lines with multiple colour and texture options that make matching straightforward in most situations.
